Bald Head Island with its occasional homes for sale and real estate, is a true island accessible only by ferry. The ferry is a strictly a passenger ferry as there are no cars allowed on the island. Bicycles and electric golf carts are your only modes of transportation on this unique, vacation island. There are less than 200 people who live on the island full time.
There are folks who come from all over the country to vacation on the island. Bald Head Island is the old stomping grounds of the two most famous pirates of all time Blackbeard & Stede Bonnet, in fact the two main roads that run across the island are named after these two.
As you approach Bald Head Island on the ferry, you will see the lighthouse called “Old Baldy” this is the oldest lighthouse in the state of North Carolina. If you are on the island be sure to climb this lighthouse for fantastic views of the entire island. Other activities on the island include great beaches, kayaking, paddle boarding, fantastic golf at one of the top 25 golf courses in North Carolina, and hundreds of miles of walking trails.
